Recently my friend bought an electric bike from Costco for around $900. I went over to his house to check it out and boy, I had so much fun riding on it; the bike can go as fast as 20 km per hour and you can easily adjust the speed by turning the handle.
However, my friend warned me against getting one for myself: He says he simply cannot take the bike anywhere because no matter where he goes, the thousand-dollar-baby will likely be nicked sooner or later.
His worry is a very sound one. People have had their e-bikes stolen within minutes of leaving them alone ie, outside a 7-11, in a park, or even outside their homes; the bike-locks were no match against the professional, lock-picking skills of thieves!
